The 30-year-old actress was given the award for her role as factory worker-turned-prostitute Fantine in musical Les Miserables.

And she opened her acceptance speech by saying simply: "It came true."
"Thank you so much to the Academy for this and for nominating me with Helen Hunt, Amy Adams, Jacki Weaver and Sally Field. I look up to you all so much, and it's just been such an honour. Thank you.
"There are so many people whose generosity and support are the reason I'm standing here right now. I must thank Hugh Jackman. Hugh, you are the best."
Hugh was her co-star in Les Mis, of course.
Struggling to contain her emotions, she continued: "I want to thank my friends, especially the ones who are cheering from Crosby Street tonight."
And she also thanked her family and hubby Adam Shulman, saying: "By far and away the greatest moment of my life was when you walked into it."
She ended: "Here is hoping that some day in the not too distant future, the misfortunes of Fantine will only be found in stories and not in real life. Thank you."
Kristen Stewart raised eyebrows by walking the red carpet on crutches.

The night also saw Daniel Day-Lewis make Oscars history with a third Best Actor award.
