The Rakes Snub Swanky Fashion House

The drainpipe jean loving band do their bit for Peta2

London art-rockers The Rakes have turned down the offer of a Burberry ad campaign after finding out the fashion house uses real fur.

Front man Alan Donahue joined forces with Peta2 (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and sent the CEO of the fashion house a letter revealing his views.

He wrote, The Rakes will not shop at Burberry or participate in Burberrys ad campaigns until it pledges to stop supporting cruelty to animals and adopts a permanent fur-free policy.

The singer added, By designing in fur, Burberry is supporting one of the most violent industries on the planet, and the Rakes wont be associated with that.

Burberry has always touted itself as a fashion leader, but theres nothing fashionable about drowning animals to death or electrocuting or strangling them on fur farms for their coats.

The Rakes arent the only indie stars whove teamed up with Peta2 " Razorlight, Morrissey and Lady Sovereign have all supported recent campaigns from the animal rights organisation.
