Poppy Drayton Talks The Epic Shannara Chronicles Love Triangle & Working With Austin Butler
It’s a tough life.
Starring crazy hot actors like Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton and Ivana Baquero, the show follows the lives of three very different people as they attempt to save their world.
Essentially, it’s a fantasy drama which happens to look absolutely amazing – and so to get you ready for its premiere on February 25 over on 5STAR, we chatted to Poppy (who plays Amberly) to hear all about the show.
And also, love triangles. Love triangles that involve Austin Butler.
Hi, Poppy! For people who know nothing about The Shannara Chronicles (yet), how would you describe it?
“I’d describe it as a series that’s packed with adventure, action, love, war, demons, unlikely friendships and magic. Lots and lots and lots of magic.”
You play one of the lead characters, Amberly. Can you give us some background into her character?
“Amberly is a young Elven princess. She’s grown up in a palace, so she’s had quite a sheltered upbringing.
“She’s quite naïve, very head strong and she’s just starting to find her feet when she suddenly discovers she has to save the Four Lands, which is the world that they live in… No biggie.”
“It’s all about her coming to terms with that decision and going on a quest to try and save [her world].”
There’s a love triangle in the show between you, Austin (who plays Wil) and Ivana (who plays Eretria). Can you fill us in on that?
“There’s a wonderful love triangle between the three of them. What’s interesting is that’s it’s not your typical love triangle in that it’s not always two girls vying for the same guy and sort of being hideously jealous of each other constantly.
“It’s nice because the dynamic shifts between the three of them, because sometimes Wil and I are closer and Eretria’s left out.
“Sometimes I’m left out and Wil and Eretria are closer and there are times where Eretria and I are closer and Wil is left out, which is probably the most fun.”
What’s it like working alongside Austin?
“It’s just the best. He’s the loveliest, most genuine, most down to earth, sweet sweet guy you’ve ever met and it was just a joy not only working with him but [also] getting to know him too as a person.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him. We giggled non-stop it felt like from the start of filming to the end which was a lot of fun, but yeah, he’s just great.”
