Tom Jones Takes A Swipe At Simon Cowell

The Voice judge questions BGT tycoon's qualifications to judge singers...

Simon Cowell as The Voice prepares to go head-to-head with Britain's Got Talent.
The veteran singer, who is a judge on the BBC's flagship new reality show, was scornful of the BGT boss's qualifications to pass judgement on hopefuls.
He said: "I have problems when people who have never got up on a stage to sing judge those who do. Who are they to say? Simon Cowell is a record man, not a singer. How can someone give advice if he or she is not qualified?
"It's like critics who criticise actors, never having been on a stage. Or having a teacher not experienced in teaching."
And the 71-year-old seemed unconcerned about the threat posed by BGT in the fight for viewers, even hinting that he had rebuffed offers from Mr Cowell before.
He said: "The shows with judges from other areas of show business are all very well and good, but The Voice is unique because the four coaches are all singers, can all make records and know what they’re talking about.
"I've been approached by other talent shows, not directly, but through my agent and I've always said no because of all that other stuff. I've never wanted to do one until I saw The Voice."
Both The Voice and BGT begin next Saturday evening. Sir Tom's [uuid=acf72a66-f863-425c-afd7-c1d2b489f6c7]fellow judges on The Voice[/uuid] will be Jessie J, Will.I.Am and Danny O'Donoghue.
