The Walking Dead Star: Daryl Could Replace Rick
But Norman Reedus says his character would be a reluctant leader...
The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus has discussed the possibility of his character, Daryl, replacing group leader Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in the hit TV show.
But, speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said he knew that Daryl would only take on the mantle of leadership reluctantly.
He said: "There's certain stuff that happens to Rick and mentally he just can't focus and get things together. [Daryl] can take care of things. I just don't know that he wants the position.
"Shane (Jon Bernthal) wanted to take over and be the new number one, and I don't think Daryl wants that. I think he'll do that if he needs to do that.
"I don't think that's what he really wants to do. So he'll have to do it if he has to, but he won't call himself Governor number two."
And the star said his character had developed over the show's three seasons.
"I definitely think he's earned his place in the group," Reedus continued. "Mentally, he still thinks he's an outsider. I don't think his social skills are the best.
"But he means well, and he'll do anything to keep this group alive, and he can hunt and he can fend for himself. And I think having those people rely on him and having this new sense of self-worth is the glue that's keeping him still around."
A gameplay trailer for videogame The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct was released this week.
