The Wanted star Max George has admitted he shaved off his bandmate Jay McGuiness' hair after "a drunken night in."

McGuiness - who was known for his long curly locks - surprised fans when he appeared on stage at a gig in Brighton last week with half of his hair shaved off.

During a chat with Digital Spy, 25-year-old Max said of the prank: "I actually cut it on a drunken night in and I think it looks alright."

He added. "It was impromptu, but I think he's looking pretty smart."

During the Brighton gig, George made the unusual decision to throw a sock containing clippings of Jay's hair into the crowd.

The Walks Like Rihanna singer said of the move: "I couldn't find a bag, so I just used whatever I could find.

"I actually saw a picture of the girl who got it and she'd obviously had a fight over it because it was ripped to shreds, but she managed to keep hold of the hair."
