5 Minutes With... L Marshall
With the recent release of his latest project ‘Kiss The Fire’ L Marshall caught up with The Wrap Up to discuss his latest offering, the meaning behind ‘Castles’ and on wanting to lose the label of being the UK’s Drake...
“On one hand it’s a compliment to be compared to someone I admire, but I genuinely don’t think I sound anything like him. I get it; I rap and I sing, people focus on that, but to me I just make music, I consider myself to be a genuine singer… I’d like people to just say ‘Hey, he sounds like L’”.
Earlier on in the year, L Marshall received a lot of airtime across the music channels and radio stations with his track ‘Castles’.
“‘Castles’ was kind of an extract from a phone conversation I had; but the song as a whole is just about realising that you’re not a one man army. I need people around me too, and I chose to express that in the way of a love song.
“The general message is that you need people around you that are gonna have your back; you can’t be successful just by yourself, and without people like them, your dreams won’t come true”.
‘Kiss The Fire’ is L Marshall's latest project - but not a mixtape or an album.
“It’s in the same vein as ‘The Wait’ in the sense that it is a good follow on record, but it’s on a different level. I feel that I’ve gotten better and that I have matured; I made a conscious decision to stop holding back with the things that I say and I feel like I have lived a life worth writing about. On ‘The Wait’ I didn’t really do that, so on ‘Kiss The Fire, I really do talk about everything.”
