5 Minutes with…Sonny
We spent 5 minutes with Swiss R&B singer Sonny
We recently caught up with Swiss newcomer Sonny to get under his skin, and find out more about his inspirations. Following the recent of his stunning single ‘Wait’, we caught up with the R&B singer to find out his inspirations, his favourite Brit ladies and what to expect in the future…
The Wrap Up: Describe yourself in three words.
Sonny: Honest, ambitious & dedicated.
TWU: What’s the music scene like in Switzerland?
Sonny: There’s not much going on! Especially in my genre, so that’s a hard question to answer.
TWU: Were your favourite artists growing up Swiss, or from abroad?
Sonny: All of my favourite artists are either from the UK or the US. I haven’t heard of many R&B/Pop artists in Switzerland other than myself and a few others.
TWU: What genre inspires you the most?
Sonny: I’d say Hip Hop and R&B, but any genres from Classical to Country music can inspire me. I love to get lost on Spotify!
TWU: Who’s your favourite female artist right now?
Sonny: My favourite female group used to be The Spice Girls, but I don’t have a favourite female artist right now. I do listen a lot to Jhene Aiko these days, so perhaps her.
TWU: Who’s your favourite male artist right now?
Sonny: Usher, and it’s always been Usher!
TWU: What was the last album you listened to?
Sonny: ‘Lace Up’ by Machine Gun Kelly, I was listening to it this morning at the gym.
TWU: Can you tell us some of the best moments in your career so far?
Sonny: I had a great time when I got to go to Los Angeles and meet my manager for the first time after working together by phone and online for 2 years. Another great moment was when I saw the smile on my parents faces when they watched me on TV for the first time. I’m a positive guy and I always feel like I have the best times working on my career.
TWU: Blondes or brunettes?
Sonny: Blondes for a flirt and brunettes for more! Nah but seriously, I like both. It doesn’t matter to me.
TWU: Who is your favourite British girl?
Sonny: All of them! But to narrow it down, I’m not mad at Paigey Cakey, Melissa Steel or Jessie J...I'm a huge fan of Jessie J's music.
TWU: What was it like undergoing military service in Switzerland recently?
Sonny: It was cool! I spent a week in the forest with some crazy dudes. It’s very different from your traditional army, we just build bridges and shacks in the forest for the community. I have to work for them one week per year so I pay less taxes, it was great!
TWU: What do you hope to achieve this year?
Sonny: My first goal is to share my new album 'On Top Of My World' with as many people as possible, that’s why it’s free! I also just want to keep making great music and videos for my fans.
