A Quick Chat With Platnum
You may remember Platnum as the group who dominated the bassline scene back in 2008 with their tracks ‘What’s It Gonna Be’ and ‘Love Shy’. Now the trio, namely Michelle, Aaron and Mina, are back with a brand-new polished sound and look. Their current single ‘Solar System’ was created by the Black Eyed Peas personal producer, DJ Poet, and has been circulating the clubs heavily. The Wrap Up’s Maz Khan has a quick chat with Michelle about their change in direction and what to expect from them next…
The Wrap Up: You guys took a break from the scene, but now you are back. Do you feel it gave you the clarity you needed?
Platnum: Yes. We took time out as Aaron suffered a loss in his family, but it allowed us time to evaluate where we wanted to go. It also gave us time to do the new album and make some good connections! We are in a happy place at the moment, with a good label, management and a great team. Having a break taught us that you can’t take anything for granted.
TWU: You previously had a heavier bassline sound. What inspired your change in direction?
Platnum: As artists we like to move with the times; although we have kept big basslines in our album. It is very diverse and we hope there is something for everyone. We want our music to go worldwide. We wanted our single ‘Solar system’ to sound like one big futuristic party!
TWU: What do you hope to bring to the music scene that is currently missing?
Platnum: Some great European sounds mixed with an American swag and some heavy bass lines!
TWU: Can you name your main inspiration that made you chose music as a career?
Platnum: It has been a dream of ours from childhood, but I have always loved Aaliyah. She inspired me, as I was a bit of a tomboy [laughs]. We also love Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal; it would be great to work with them.
TWU: You’ve been co-signed by the Black Eyed Peas DJ, DJ Poet. That’s a big look!
Platnum: It's was a blessing meeting Poet. He is a musical genius and a great guy and if we ever got to collaborate with the B.E.P it would be crazy! You never know what is round the corner…
TWU: If you could have a dinner party with 5 people, dead or alive, who would you invite?
Aaliyah, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Michael Jackson and Elvis. That would be crazy!
TWU: That’s a diverse choice! So, what else should we expect from you in the future?
Platnum: The release of our album ‘Lost In The Music’ will be coming soon. We also hope to have some big collaborations very soon, as well as aiming for our own tour in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled!
