Alternative Sound Selection
Since this is my first Alternative Sound Selection of 2014, so I believe a ‘happy New Year’ greeting is still in order, however belated… so happy New Year! I pray the year brings you all your hearts desires. As for bringing some good alternative British urban music, 2014 has already started strong; here are some of the best that have caught my attention so far.
Female future soul singer and songwriter Ego Ella May has linked up with buzzing record label Soulection and the first fruits of this union is probably one of the best pieces of music you’ve heard from the London native. Produced by Soulection producer IAMNOBODI, ‘Underwater’ is the lead single from Ego Ella May’s sophomore EP ‘Breathing Underwater’ which is out now. Enjoy the excellent new single below and download the EP HERE.
Kyan Kuatios is back on the scene with some excellent new music and having got rid of his last name, he is now simply known as Kyan and has all the indie blogs labelling him as a ‘new artist’, much to my chagrin. Notwithstanding, Kyan will be releasing his debut EP ‘The Purple Experiment’ in March and ‘Rosetta’ is the resounding lead single from the forthcoming record. Having just come off a stint supporting AlunaGeorge on tour, the Cambridge native is back on the road with London Grammar for their ongoing UK tour which culminates on February 12 at the O2 Academy in Leeds.
I don’t know much about 20-year London/Brighton singer and songwriter Keziah Who but her latest offering titled ‘Escape’ is the stuff only great artists are made of, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from her in time to come. Produced by fellow Londoner Emmavie, the summery tune draws its influences from 90’s R&B and Neo-Soul, while managing to keep its originality and British charm. One listen of ‘Escape’ and you will be wistfully wishing for the summer to be upon us.
