Azealia Banks Says She And Nicki Minaj Are Trying To Escape The Hip-Hop Lifestyle
Azealia Banks has recently insisted that she is not concerned about bridging the gap between hip-hop and pop music. The 'Aquababe' rapper has claimed that herself and Nicki Minaj have many similarities as they are transcending a scene that tries to limit what they can do…
"The hip-hop world is used to a certain lifestyle that Nicki Minaj and me are trying to escape from," Banks explained in an interview with VIBE.
"It's weird because they like you when they can still see you, but once you try to ascend, it's like, 'What. The. F**k?' Because they can't reach you anymore and they're not rising with you. They miss that comfort and it takes a while to get used to it, but eventually they'll understand. That's the power of art. Art pushes culture and forward thinking."
She added: "Right now, if you listen to Nicki, she's really making good pop music and is definitely up there with [Lady GaGa] and [Katy Perry] - exactly where she wants to be. But the hip-hop world maybe didn't know that's where she wanted to be."
VIBE isn't the only cover the controversial rapper has graced recently, as her recent cover on UK magazine Dazed and Confused has been banned in seven countries! When the issue hits newsstands on August 16, it will be sure to turn a few heads - that is unless you live in one of the seven countries that have so far banned the risqué cover, which allegedly shows the singer with a pink condom in her mouth.
The Dazed team tweeted: "Just been told our upcoming @AZEALIABANKS cover has been banned from 7 countries so far. Thank God for the Internet, huh?" They are keeping the cover image itself firmly under wraps until the official unveil on Monday.
