Brit Awards 2012: And The Nominees Are...
Last night, celebrities and paparazzi gathered at The Savoy Hotel to find out who would be up for a sought-after BRIT Award this year, and the results were deserved in most areas but lacking in others. A big congratulations to Ed Sheeran, who is leading the nominations with four potential gongs for him to win from Best Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, Mastercard British Album of the Year for '+' and British Single for 'The A Team'...
The 20-year-old said to The Daily Record: "I’m flying the flag for Team Ginge and everyone out there. I can’t believe I got more nominations than Adele." Coincidently, his 21st birthday is on the award night itself. He added: "I can’t wait for the big night – I’m going to be partying hard with Example, which will be messy..."
Jessie J hit the red carpet with a new look and emerged triumphant with three nominations, putting her head-to-head with Adele. She said of her nominations: "I would never have imagined this last year. I remember sitting at the table and thinking, 'Next year, I want to be voted Best Female.' Even if I don't win, it's just being nominated and the feeling of that."
Chase & Status also got a mention in the British Group category, whilst Example, Professor Green and Emeli Sande have also got a nomination each. Notably absent was Wretch 32, to fans outrage and critics bewilderment. The rapper had a top five album and a number one single last year. He won big last year, but Tinie Tempah was also missing from the list, which surprised fans due to his ground breaking breakthrough in America as a British male MC.
Katy B was also missing from the Breakthrough list, despite being a leading lady in dubstep with her unique sound, as was Labrinth. Of course, Noel Gallagher and Coldplay have been nominated, as the standard procedure goes.
It is a strange thing when a show as important to the UK music scene as this one continues to neglect the future and still elects the past.
The BRITs will be broadcast live on February 21 on ITV1.
