Dj Fresh Is Very ‘Hot Right Now’
Yesterday, DJ Fresh got his second No. 1 with his Rita Ora-featuring single, 'Hot Right Now' – which saw him take D&B to the top of the charts for the first time. Although the D&B veteran has now achieved mainstream success, he spoke to NZ City about why he is still different to the David Guetta's of the scene...
He said: "David's music is much more commercial in the traditional sense of the word commercial, whereas the stuff I'm doing is coming from a different place, it's a much more UK-born underground sound. The guys I'm working with come from that world, the UK bass scene, and I'm not collaborating with American pop artists, I'm with people who are the cream of the crop in terms of their crossover appeal."
DJ Fresh also spoke about his annoyance regarding the BRIT Awards dropping their Dance category in favour for a Live Act category, saying: "It seems absolutely crazy there is no award, considering how many dance music tracks there in the charts, and Skrillex has just won three Grammy Awards, the US is really accepting of dance and bass music. I think it's crazy that they don't represent dance music and they should really bring that back."
