Dj Luck And Mc Neat: 'the Internet Means Constant Hard Work For Artists'
DJ Luck and MC Neat popped into the MTV offices recently to talk to The Wrap Up about the best UK MC’s in the game. The duo spoke to us in the lead up to MTV’s Best of the Best UK MC’s for 2012, which saw panelists debate who the top 10 MC’s in the UK music scene are. DJ Luck unwittingly predicted the winner of the show – he said of Wretch 32: “Without a doubt, Wretch 32 has the best swagger. The way he comes across, he’s just got it…”
MC Neat discussed the impact of technology on the music industry, saying that with “technology and stuff, people forget. If an artist drops off for 10 minutes, people wonder where they have gone. It’s constant hard work; you gotta be there and have something out.
“[Whether you’re] pushing a mixtape or a tune or being [seen] in the club. Your name has constantly got to be in someone’s earshot… otherwise it’s [just] memories.”
Meanwhile, DJ Luck told us that the pair are set to release new music this year and have shot the video for the track ‘Lighting Fires’ – which nearly got them in some trouble with the law. Luck explained: “The video is mad… We got pulled by like, 20 feds at 2am… they saw us filling up petrol cans cause the director was taking us to an abandoned car park to light it up.
"We were in south London and we knew the feds were following us so we went, but [they] pulled us. We were about to explain it’s just a video shoot…”
