Emeli Sande Beats Adele’S 2012 Sales Record
Having broken a multitude of records since the release of her sophomore album, ’21,’ Adele has been taking a break from the limelight. But snapping at her heels is fellow homegrown talent Emeli Sande, who has just been reported to have outsold Adele with her debut album ‘Our Version of Events’ as it was recently named the top selling UK album of the year…
Selling 659,800 copies since its release in February, the Official Charts Company have recently confirmed that the album has overtaken Adele’s as the top selling album of 2012 in the UK. Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, even took it so far as to say that a new “British female singing star has been born.”
“At a time when it is as hard as ever for new artists to break through, it is fantastic that Emeli Sande now has the official biggest selling album of 2012 so far. It is also apt that Emeli (who won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award in February) should take over the inaugural BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner, Adele.”
‘21’ is, however, still the fifth biggest selling album of all-time, having sold a total of 4.4 million copies in the UK.
