Emeli Sandé Trumps Adele At Q Awards
Emeli Sandé has emerged as this year’s big winner at the 2012 Q awards, which were held at London’s Grosvenor Hotel yesterday. The Scottish songbird beat the likes of Adele to be crowned Best Solo Artist. The 24-year old has taken the UK music scene by storm over the past eighteen months and spoke to The Scottish Daily Record about the win: “This is a big one. It’s a big competition, so it was really good. I’m very happy about this….
“It feels really nice to get that type of acknowledgement.”
The win tops off a huge week for the singer, who stormed the X Factor with Labrinth over the weekend with an explosive performance of the single ‘Beneath Your Beautiful,’ which saw the track subsequently jump 88 places to No.1 on the iTunes chart.
The performance also caught the attention of former X-Factor Judge Cheryl Cole, who tweeted: “Labrinth is so talented it’s unbelievable! I am obsessed with his and Emeli Sande’s song.”
Other winners on the night included Plan B, who won the ‘Best Track’ accolade for ‘iLL Manors’ as well as soul singer Dionne Warwick who was awarded the ‘Q Classic Song’ gong for her single ‘Walk On By’, originally released in 1964.
