Encore, Do You Want More?
Hello again everyone! Encore checking in again to tell you what we have been doing recently. What a crazy time we’ve had since our last column. We’ve been travelling up and down the country doing a series of radio interviews to promote ‘Fun Last Night’, we’ve had a school tour and we’ve also managed to squeeze in a few live shows, which hopefully some of you will have made it to. Along with all of that, we've been working really hard in the studio. Very busy times...
The radio tour was incredibly busy, but it was so much fun. We would visit four cities per day and then we’d go back to a hotel, sleep, wake up and then do it all over again the next day for a whole week. The interaction we shared with the radio DJs and hearing ‘Fun Last Night’ on so many different radio stations in so many different cities was an incredible experience. The radio guys made it enjoyable for us, because they realised that we were doing a lot of interviews in a short space of time so they would come up with things to switch it up and not ask us the same questions over and over again. In Liverpool, Simon Greening had us on his show where he got us to act out some scenarios from movies and then the listeners had to call in and guess what film the scenarios were from, which was a lot of fun! Things like that made us enjoy the radio tour so much.
We had a great time at an under 18s show in Maidstone, then that was followed by a show at Mayhem in Southend – which was really good and we managed to pull in two professional dancers on to the stage to give the show a good entertainment factor. We also hit Oxbridge and had a great time there. Performing on the uni scene is something that we’d like to do a lot more of in the future, because there is always a great party vibe at those shows. On March 8, we headlined the ‘Musicalize’ event at the O2 in London. It was an amazing experience for us to be able to headline a show with so many other great artists on the bill.
Before all of that, though, we had the school tour – which was completely crazy. We had kids wanting us to sign their foreheads, which was actually really funny. We know that a similar thing happened to Drake and one girl ended up getting his autograph turned into a tattoo on her forehead – that just isn’t right! We’re really happy with the amount of love that ‘Fun Last Night’ has received from everyone we’ve encountered. It has been played on Choice FM and Tom Deacon played it on his BBC Radio 1 show, so we’re over the moon with the support and exposure that the single has had. Again, we have to give thanks to our incredible street team, Enya, Vicky Dempster and Graham Westerberg, who showed us phenomenal support.
We’ve finished recording our album, but we’re still making tweaks to it to make sure that it is perfect before we release it in the summer. We’re really excited about it! We thought we were busy with the promotion for the single, but we know that our workload is going to double when it comes to promoting the album. It’s going to be manic, but we love what we do, so bring it on! Mark Asari has been the busiest out of all of us. Not only has he been with us doing all of our promotional work and live performances, he’s also been doing some solo work. He’s been doing some work with Wretch 32 and he’s also featured on a track on Angel’s mixtape.
He’s also featured on PW’s amazing new track, 'On My Way'. It was funny because on the day the video for it was filmed, Mark had an early start for the filming and then he had to join us for a sound check ahead of a live performance that night. To say he was tired at the end of it would be a massive understatement. That track is out on April 1, so please go and support it. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve been working in the studio with a producer named DJ Drifta, and we’re planning to release a five-track mixtape before our album drops in the summer. Stay tuned for more information on that!
We’re signing out now, as we’ve got interviews and studio work to do before we can even think about sleeping tonight. But until next month, keep supporting the movement!
