Encore Live: The Review!
Last week Thursday night, Encore put on a special one-off gig at London’s Vanilla club, where they proved they’re not your average run-of-the-mill boyband. The trio – consisting of singers Mark Asar and Cairo Woodwood and rapper Pierre Joseph – played the intimate gig in the west London venue to a select group of fans and press associates, giving audiences an entertaining preview of what’s to come from the up-and-coming band…
Fusing fast, up-tempo club tracks, with stripped back acoustic songs, the threesome convinced any doubtful critics in the room, as they showcased their strong vocal ability and talent.
They opened their set with the upbeat and familiar ‘Tit For Tat’, which got the crowd two-stepping and in a very lively mood. Then, switching up the tempo, the lads then sang an acoustic cover version of Michael Jackson’s ‘Human Nature’, which allowed them to show off their vocal skills.
But keen to keep the show at a lively pace, they then switched it up a notch, performing their popular second single, ‘The One’, which allowed fans to sing along and really get involved. The band also gave audiences a preview of their new material, as they exclusively performed new track, ‘Cameras’.
‘Crazy’ was a general crowd pleaser. The dubstep-influenced pop song really got the crowd going. And Pierre’s rapping really added some edgy fun to the track. A personal highlight of mine was when the guys did an acoustic cover version of Extreme’s 1991 power ballad, ‘More Than Words’. Mark and Cairo’s vocals on this particular song were pitch-perfect and it was at this moment you could see these guys are the real deal.
Overall, it was a great show. The night featured fun, up-tempo tracks that will no doubt feel right at home in the charts. But it was the stripped down songs that generally proved these guys are not just pretty faces, but very talented musicians as well, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of Encore in 2011.
