Fresh: M.i.a. - '27' (Amy Winehouse Tribute)
Within hours of Amy Winehouse’s death being announced, M.I.A. uploaded a haunting, unfinished demo of '27', which is a track that was due to be part of her 'Vicki Leekx' mixtape. However, she dedicated the track to Winehouse and her friends who,
like Amy, died at the age of 27...
The sombre track only lasts for 2 minutes and 35 seconds, but it tells the heartbreaking story of a troubled friend who idolised the rock star lifestyle and seen their life fall apart as they abused drugs and alcohol before committing suicide. The track features the haunting lyrics: "All rock stars go to heaven, you said you’ll be dead at 27," and "I took you to the clinic to get you clean, but you couldn't..."
Following the untimely passing of Amy Winehouse on Saturday afternoon, the family of the tragic star has released a statement. In the statement, the family reveal that the singer’s death has left "a gaping hole" in their lives.
"Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister and niece," the family said in the statement. "She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time."
The music world has united in paying tribute to the Grammy award-winner. Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Rick Ross, Skylar Grey, Usher, Diddy, Lloyd, Missy Elliott, Trina, Keri Hilson, Jay Sean and Nas were among those to pay tribute to Winehouse on Twitter.
Among those leading the tributes on Twitter was Mark Ronson, a producer who had the pleasure of working alongside Amy on the excellent 'Back To Black' album. He told his followers: "She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life."
