Hatcha’S Dubstep Chronicles
Once again welcome to Hatcha's Dubstep Chronicles! I've got loads to fill you in on, as always. I'll kick it off by revealing the winner of the ‘Dubstep v Grime v DnB' go kart race I told you about last month - it was yours truly! Jammer from BBK was second and Logan came in at third place. It was a great day down near Brighton; we had planned to split everyone into three different teams but some people pulled out last minute so we ended up contending against each other…
The True Tiger boys were there too, as was Lost, Adam F, Rude Kid, D Double E, Footsie, Uncle Dugs, Phantasy, Hizzleguy, Taiki & Nulight and Discarda. I've never been in a go karting team, but I often do racing and it was a wicked day, with loads of crashes and blinding banter amongst everyone. Oh, it was good to add to the medals on my shelf too!
During the last month I was in Portland and Amsterdam, but one of the best nights was DJ EZ's ‘official Z-Uncut’ night at Fabric. We did a ‘Kisstory’ set and I've never seen it so packed. There was a great vibe; in attendance was MC Viper & EZ, Majestic 888 and Truth Dubstep who were all playing, along with Caspa & Skrillex being at the venue too.
I've got so much going on over the summer. I will be hitting up Rotterdam, Cyprus, Colarado, Belgium and then Malta, which is a new one for me. I always look forward to visiting ew countries and seeing their reaction to the music. I'm then back at Fabric on July 20 for the huge ‘Sin City’ night where you'll see Friction, EZ,Scratch Perverts, MC Beezy and many more! I'm massively looking forward to that. On July 15 I'm going to be at the Black Sheep Bar in Croydon for 'Hatcha & Friends'. There's going to be so many artists there too, including Dismantle, Hizzleguy, Uncle Dugs, N-Type, Youngsta, DJ Chef, Benga, Bannerworx, Crazy D and Sargeant Pokes. Be sure to get yourselves down to at least one of those nights!
Fom August 30 I'll be taking it up a notch at the Outlook Festival in Croatia! There is also the Sin City boat party with Skream, Zed Bias and others. Myself, Lost and Plastician are also doing an old school garage set on a boat which will be separate from Sin City with Mighty Moe and Crazy.
There'll then be a second old school garage set at the Sin City beach party - which is free entry! On top of that I'll also be doing a ‘roots of dubstep’ set on the main stage up at the castle, as well as playing for DMZ and various other sets. It's Europe's leading bass music event at the height of summer so I strongly advise you to check it out. Tickets can be brought from the website.
With the Fabric and Outlook events you'll have noticed there's a lot happening on the Sin City front at the minute! Work has also started on Megladon and Cato's albums which will be out on the label next year. In the meantime, you can get Cessman's 'Gurkha/Stampede/Frankenstein Dub' and Haze's 'Maestro/My Selecta' which are out and available on the label at the moment. I've just done a track of my own called 'King Toes' and Mix Mag have named it their tune of the month. As a thanks to them for their support I gave them the track to give away and as a thank you to you guys for all your support you can also listen to it here!
On the Kiss 100 front, the show's been going great and we've had Matty G from the States in, representing the Dub Police Crew. D Double E and Footsie, The Soap Dodgers and Kinzy are also in next week. We've also had some huge exclusives played on the show, many of which have made it into my top 10 tracks for this month that you need to be sure you hear!
Tracks of the month:
1. Coki - 'Chicken Bop'
2. Taiki & Nulight - 'Watch'
3. Megladon - 'Harlequin Dreams'
4. Cato - 'Have I Told You'
5. Hizzleguy - 'Invasion'
6. Lost - 'Greed'
7. Cato - 'Spotlight ft Lucy Randell (28Hz Remix)'
8. Soap Dodgers - 'Infinite'
9. Tunnidge - 'Empty Space'
10. Dream ft Liz-E - 'You'
You can join in with the Kiss Dubstep show every week by using the hashtag #kissdubstep on Twitter. I also took part in Kiss's first SoundClash. Myself, Rodigan, Logan, Steve Smart, Shortee Blitz and Pioneer all took part and the feedback was sick. There were cameras in the studio so people were able to watch online. I got to the semi-final and missed out on the final by two votes! 10 minutes after voting had closed I had enough votes to have gone through to the final, but to be honest I didn't want to go up against Rodigan [laughs]. He's a world champ clash master and you just can't test him - he won of course!
Before I sign off this month, I also did some filming for a documentary on Benga recently which I think is going to be coming out online. It's all about his history, how he started and Big Apple Records - really interesting stuff - so be sure to watch that when it becomes available.
Have a great start to your summer and I'll hopefully catch you at one of the huge events I'm lined up for over the next four weeks.
Until next time!
