Hot 97 Vs Young Money: The Saga Continues
Rapper Lil Wayne has spoken to MTV News to justify his reason for pulling Nicki Minaj’s headlining set from HOT 97’s Summer Jam earlier this month. Shortly before the 29-year-old was due to take the stage, DJ Peter Rosenberg referred to her single ‘Starships’ as “B******t” – which prompted the Young money head honcho to pull the plug on the performance…
When asked about his decision, Wayne revealed exclusively to MTV: “That's a female; first and foremost Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter when or where or how."
He added: "I expect the red carpet, in her manner; the pink carpet should be laid out for her."
In a stark response to Lil Wayne’s admission DJ Rosenberg fired back, unconvinced by Weezy’s explanation. He said on the radio: “Lil Wayne thinks that I don’t show respect for women. Wayne is right about something — Women are mothers, are sisters, are daughters. But I have a question. Is me giving my opinion that one song is wack showing a lack of respect for women?”
He continued to prove his point, live on air – playing snippets of lyrics that appear to promote misogyny from both Minaj and Wayne; including the song ‘Stupid Hoe’.
Continuing with the smack talk, he suggested that Young Money pay the HOT 97 studio‘s a visit to discuss the matter, concluding: “Oh, that's because then they'd have to hear the truth. And they can't handle the truth!"
