In The Lab With Labrinth
Hey guys! I'm not sure if you lot will know this yet, but I recently won an Ivor Novello award with Tinie Tempah for 'Pass Out'. It was a great feeling to win such a prestigious award and it means a lot to me. I'm really happy that we won...
It was also really nice that Tinie let me give the acceptance speech, seeing as I missed going on stage with him to collect his award at the BRITs. Remember when I told you that I was in the toilet that time? Yeah, well, this definitely made up for it.
It's been a great month for me since we last spoke, and I've been happy to see the sun shining - it just makes everything seem better, doesn't it? It makes me feel positive and gives me a new energy for making music. I've been doing loads of shows at clubs across the country and I bring dancers and my acoustic guitar for my performances – both seem to go down pretty well with the crowds.
In Portsmouth, I got the chance to play Ms Dynamite's new single, 'Neva Soft', to the crowd and they went crazy for it. I produced the track and I wanted to bring some of her old school vibe back with this song. I think it really brings out the strength of her vocals!
I've also been working with my boy, Bluey Robinson, who is an amazing singer and his new single, 'Showgirl', is coming out later this month – which I also produced. Bluey recently toured with Justin Bieber and the girls love him! He's just got one of those faces that girls go crazy about. I can't wait to see him in the charts.
So, while I haven't brought my own album out yet, please don't think I ain't been busy. I'm so happy with how the album is sounding so far and I think that working with various songwriters from all over the world has really allowed me to bring different sounds to the album, but it still has my UK flavour on it. I've given it 110%, but I can't say that writing and producing your own album is easy, man.
I've been so busy working on other people's projects, but I feel that I can't ask someone else to produce a Labrinth track when I can do it myself, so I take on everything at once. Although, it would be pretty good if there was another Labrinth to help me to produce music (haha), it would probably make my life easier because I would have more time to work on my other projects. But when my album comes out later this year, it will be worth the wait!
So yeah, I've got loads of shows coming up this summer and I'm doing a few festivals, including the Wireless Festival, so I hope to see you all there. I'm touring throughout May and June and I also have some July dates. Check out my website, www.labrinth.co.uk, for more info.
Anyway, I'm off to continue celebrating our Ivor Novello win! Take care everyone and see you all this summer!
