Independent Music Labels Cry Out For Help
An arson attack on the Sony warehouse in Enfield on Monday is apparently likely to hit small labels very hard, as they did not hold stock elsewhere. Music fans have been kindly urged to support these independent labels by purchasing digital downloads of albums after millions of hardcopies were burnt away due to the London riots...
The Association Of Independent Music said: "Buy a digital download of an album from any one of the digital retailers in the UK, as well as going to their local record store while stocks last."
The warehouse served about 60 business customers, including Sony Pictures, BBC Worldwide-owned DVD company 2entertain and Pias – the UK's largest home entertainment distributor.
More established groups – such as Beggars Group, which releases Adele’s material – appear to be coping because they have stock in different warehouses, but smaller labels are struggling with this huge loss.
It has been reported that three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the arson attack.
