With over 40 million views online and more than half a million fans on Facebook, Borgore is one of the hottest DJ’s in America, having worked with Diplo, Yelawolf, M.I.A and Miley Cyrus to name a few. With his latest single ‘Decisions’ prompting ravers to go wild across the globe, The Wrap Up’s Jenna Simmons caught up with the Israeli born act to talk real-life decisions, crazy fans, twerking and drinking games...
The Wrap Up: Hey Borgore! So tell us - what it was like working with Miley Cyrus on ‘Decisions’?
Borgore: I made the tune and I really wanted to do it with her; both of us decided to put the tune out without saying it was Miley and it got good feedback. Then just a couple of weeks ago, Miley went on Twitter and revealed to the world she was the vocalist on 'Decisions'. I didn't expect it all, but I like these kinds of surprises. She's definitely an amazing singer and it was an experience to work with her.
TWU: All of your music videos seem pretty fun to say the least, especially ‘Nympho’. What has been your favourite video to film?
Borgore: ‘Nympho’. It was my first video and it was the best one, it took us 10 minutes to film and then I edited it myself in 20 minutes.
TWU: You did it all by yourself?
Borgore: Yeah, super ghetto! It was fun, there was no stress about it, since then everything you do is kind of stressful, isn’t it?!
TWU: Let’s touch on your concept of ‘Gorestep’ – how does it feel to pretty much have your own genre?
Borgore: I’m happy about this! I’m very metal affiliated, but my true background before metal was jazz and classical music, which I have been studying since I was four. So there’s more than just metal and noise in my background and it’s something that I am going to try and put in my next releases.
TWU: Looking at your twitter you mention twerking a lot - can you twerk?
Borgore: Well I tried once, but I don’t think I have a big enough booty.
TWU: You get a lot of female attention. What has been your best and worst fan experience?
Borgore: There are a lot of good things, I haven’t had many bad things - how can one complain? I did have a couple of crazy feminist chicks hitting me up saying that I’m ruining the world and s**t. But I think that when people are watching me they understand it is humorous and most of the stuff is fun and jokes. When little girls listen to Rihanna singing ‘come on rudeboy get it up’ or Lady Gaga singing ‘I wanna ride your disco stick’ it is super serious. They have way more of a following than me, so those accusations are pointless to me.
TWU: Your next UK appearance is at Bestival. Will the cream machine be making an appearance?
Borgore: It won’t be at the festival this year, hopefully we will be able to move it to Europe next year; the cream machine is just too f***ing big! But I'll play a lot of new tunes and you get me - I’m pretty and lovely…
TWU: We have heard that there is a Borgore drinking game; can you explain what this is?
Borgore: It is a game I play on twitter; I often end up in countries where people don’t understand my English and I don’t have friends there. I’m usually chilling backstage trying to get drunk by myself, so I ask my fans on Twitter to help me get drunk by sending me rude pictures. Every time I get a picture I have one shot and it gets you f****d fast.
TWU: Speaking of games, we have one for you which is inspired by your track ‘Decisions’. Get ready for a quickfire round!
TWU: Ice cream or cake?
Borgore: A lot of cakes come with ice cream. If the restaurant serves them together, I don’t have to pick one.
TWU: You cannot cheat.
Borgore: Ice cream.
TWU: Beer or vodka?
Borgore: Vodka. I mix them… if you really want to have a good night and some new experiences, you just mix it. Just chase your vodka with beer; you need someone to watch you when you do it - it’s horrible.
TWU: Twerk or wine?
Borgore: Wine? What is that? [Looks online] It auto corrects me to Wayne Rooney.
TWU: Try ‘Dutty Wine’…
Borgore: Ahh, the original ‘Dutty Wine’… f**k this, wine sucks! They look like they’re having a seizure - it’s got to be the twerk.
TWU: Facebook or Twitter?
Borgore: Twitter. Facebook threaten to close my page sometimes.
TWU: Would you rather see a girl covered in icing or cream?
Borgore: I think cream is more sexual.
TWU: UK audiences or US audiences?
Borgore: I think that US audiences are way more responsive but I honestly like the UK the best, because I find the girls more attractive.
