Interview: Leeroy Reed
The Wrap Up recently caught up with Leeroy Reed from MTV show The Valleys as he released his first single ‘Can’t Get Enough’ featuring Nagla, which is out now. Leeroy spoke to us about his favourite rappers, the battle to have his music played on radio and what he has planned next…
The Wrap Up: Which rapper inspired you to start rapping?
Leeroy Reed: Devlin is one of my main inspirations, I love his flow and also his lyrics.
TWU: Who would you like to collaborate with right now?
Leeroy: Right now it would have to be someone like Chip, Wiley and female wise, a Keri Hilson type. I’ve remixed my song with a massive Australian singer, so need a male next I think… I know my management are working on Omarion for a future single.
TWU: Since you're known for your fame on The Valleys, were you nervous to release your music?
Leeroy: Of course! Me and my management have worked hard to show The Valleys as a vehicle. Radio don’t want to play my music even though it has 99 percent positive reviews on Youtube and over one million hits combined… It’s hard for people to say something you made is rubbish, which is what people were trying to tell me. But when I made a track that people said would be number 1 if Wiley was on it – [that] gave me a lot of confidence.
TWU: Describe your music in three words.
Leeroy: Absolutely F**king Amazing!
TWU: If you hadn't had been on The Valleys, what do you think you would you be doing now?
Leeroy: I would still be writing in my bedroom and going to work. People think that all the stuff for The Valleys is fake, but I have 10 books with 1000's of songs that I have written and I would still be doing that now.
TWU: What's next for your music career?
Leeroy: I'm releasing my next single in Ireland only as I want my Irish fans to have something special. Then my next single is out [in] September. I have two or three choices that I'm looking at, but of course my MTV family will be the first to know.
