This week MTV Wrap Up caught up with multi talented Tom Misch who recently dropped his DIY project ‘5 Day Mischon’, working across the board with a diverse group of artists including Will Heard, Novelist, Carmody and more.
Scroll down below to check out a documentary clip which exhibits the recording process for this project.
What made you want to set out to achieve the '5 Day Mischon'?
I basically really wanted to put some new music out but I didn't want to dwell on tracks too much... I work well under pressure and enjoy jus banging out music quickly. It's what I used to do when I started making beats.
Did you walk into the project knowing the line up you wanted or was it as sporadic as on the day?
We pre planned the guests who came on each day but that was the only planned aspect of the project.
Curating a track from start to finish in 24 hours sets a certain amount of pressure on you, would you agree?
Ye for sure but I really enjoy that kind of pressure. I get bored quickly with music that I spend ages working on so it was a joy to just make something quickly; a complete snapshot of that moment of creativity.
What was it like to work with Novelist?
It was a lot of fun.. I really enjoy being in the producers seat when working with rappers.
We're you familiar with his music beforehand? If so, any stand out tracks?
To be honest I wasn't very familiar with many of his tracks before the session.. but I remember him playing a set after me on the same stage at Parklife festival and thinking he had crazy stage presence.
What kind of energy did he bring to your studio at home?
He's a super chill guy and I got the sense he was excited to be in the session so it was a real pleasure to make something.
Has this made you want to look at collaborating with other grime artists?
Ye for sure. I think it's showed me that I can collaborate with grime artists despite our different musical worlds.
Have you considered performing the entire project Live? If so, how do you see it looking with all the talent?
No not really, I just want it to be a studio snapshot of those 5 days..
What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?
I got a new single coming out soon.. but mostly I'm jus working on my album and doing some shows over the summer.
