J. Cole Moves Album Date To Compete With Kanye West
June 18 is set to be a busy day. Kanye West long ago tweeted the date, indicating that we can expect a release from him. It was later revealed that he would drop his album ‘Yeezus’. Kelly Rowland will also be releasing her album ‘Talk A Good Game’ while Mac Miller will be dropping ‘Watching Movies With The Sound Off’…
However, what got people talking was when J. Cole tweeted ‘June 18th’, emulating Ye’s tweet and revealing that his sophomore album ‘Born Sinner’ would be released on that date.
The Roc Nation artist told Billboard’s The Juice that he moved his album date to match Kanye’s on purpose. “Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation. Which is exactly why I’m moving my release date up,” he stated.
“I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It’d be like, ‘Oh and J. Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.”
Cole’s debut album shot to no.1 when it was released in October 2011.
