Jessie Ware Reveals Hip-Hop Influences
Rising star Jessie Ware recently sat down to discuss her upcoming debut album ‘Devotion’, her love for all things hip-hop and plans for some big-name collaborations. In an interview with Digital Spy, the ‘Running’ singer revealed that although people were expecting her to release a dance record, there is a huge influence of soul and hip-hop on the LP…
"I grew up listening to hip-hop and my producer Dave [Okumu] was more into soul. It's the kind of music I loved watching on MTV Base. I love Nas, and I wanted to put as much hip-hop on the album as I could get away with."
The singer, who has been compared to Sade, spoke about her current influences: “I think what Plan B is doing at the moment is pretty amazing. Not many people can move between soul singer and hard rapper. He's very creative. I also love A$AP Rocky at the moment, but I'm obsessed with Nas's new album. It's so good. I mean it's so good. It's f*****g wicked! It's like you're listening to him in the '90s again."
Jessie also confirmed that although she loves hip-hop, she wouldn’t rule out mainstream collaborations with the likes of David Guetta and Calvin Harris – stating that their music is ‘a guilty pleasure’ but she’s not ashamed of being a big fan!
‘Devotion’ hits the shelves on August 20.
