K Koke Speaks On Roc Nation Deal
MTV Brand New for 2013 nominee K Koke is preparing for the release of his debut Roc Nation album ‘I Ain’t Perfect’, which is said to drop early next year. The Stonebridge rapper recently dropped the first single from the album entitled ‘Turn Back’ featuring Maverick Sabre. The 27-year-old sat down with Digital Spy to talk about what fans can expect from him next…
Speaking on his second single from the album, Koke revealed: “The track with Rita [Ora] is my next single, it's called 'Lay Down Your Weapons'. They're big collaborations, but I'm not worried about it - the music is very different to what's out there at the moment."
The one and only UK male Roc Nation signee also discussed how his record deal came about with Jay-Z, saying: “I was in the middle of choosing a management team at the time, and then I got a call from Roc Nation saying not to sign anything until he'd had a meeting with me. When I met with him it all made sense, everything suddenly felt that bit easier.
“I signed with Roc Nation about two years ago. Three months after I signed the deal I ended up in prison for seven and a half months, and just had to start again after that. I haven't been out to the US - the charges brought against me mean I can't go out there just yet."
When asked if he had a back-up plan should his mainstream music career not kick off, he admitted: “No. The roadside is my back-up plan!"
