Kanye West Explains Album Name At Listening Party
Last night (June 10) in New York City's Meatpacking District building’s loading dock, Kanye West held a listening party for his album ‘Yeezus’, which will be released this time next week. The event saw bloggers, celebrities and passers-by who had heard what was going on enter one by one. Celebrities at the party included Beyonce and Jay-Z, who, according to The Huffington Post, were ‘all-out, hands-in-the-air’ dancing to the album. Other notable faces included Busta Rhymes, Timbaland, Theophilus London and Q-Tip...
West explained the title name of his album, stating: "I want to explain something about the album title. Simply put, 'West' was my slave name and 'Yeezus' is my god name."
He also spoke about the marketing strategy of the LP, or more specifically, lack thereof. ‘Ye admitted he didn’t like seeing his name on Youtube alongside other ‘related’ artists.
"I had to learn about giving, this whole album is about giving - this whole process is about giving ... no f**ks at all. I have a new strategy, it's called 'no strategy.' I have a plan to sell more music it's called 'make better music.'"
In terms of the tracks, it was revealed that Daft Punk worked on ‘three or four’ songs on the album. Kid Cudi, Bon Iver and Chief Keef are some of the artists that feature on the record, which is 10 tracks long.
The Chi-town boy-done-good left the venue shortly after midnight, but not before giving some advice to those who had come to observe.
"If I'm standing next to someone, that means they're smarter than me. I'm standing next to someone, that means they're better at something than I am."
