Kemi’S Urban Style Review
We had a great start to the month with the MTV Video Music Awards and the bi-yearly New York and London Fashion week, both of which saw the stars come out in a glorious fashion. In London, we saw Tinie Tempah suited up at GQ's Men Of The Year awards. After scooping up GQ's Solo Artist Of The Year, Tinie has graced the covers of the magazine for the October issue...
‘American Boy’ singer Estelle took to the stage to show off her leggy pins in some mean Louboutins at HOT 97′s 2012 On Da Reggae Tip Concert in NYC. For the evening she wore a plaid button front blouse, black mini shorts and Christian Louboutin Boudubou booties, uniquely made from black ostrich. The stunning six inch heels also feature a peep-toe silhouette. She completed her ensemble with gold jewellery and a Hermès Collier de Chien belt.
This month everyone’s favourite pop star Rihanna was crowned with the 'Best Risk-Taking Style' title by People's Magazine in their annual list. Robyn Fenty was looking fab at this year’s MTV VMA’s with a short pixie haircut whilst wearing a knotted white gown which was custom created by Adam Selman.
This autumn, Ms Alicia Keys became the new face for Reebok Classics and launched a limited edition sneaker range for the brand, with a Keys-approved colours scheme, dope embellishments and funky graphics. The line is available now at Reebok’s website. Like Rihanna, the ‘New Day’ singer was also a picture of elegance at the VMA’s in an Alexandre Vauthier gown, Gucci shoes, and Lynn Ban and Repossi jewellery.
Ashanti and her boo Nelly stepped out looking adorable together recently for a night out in Atlanta, Georgia. Nelly is currently starring as a live-in mentor on CW’s talent competition, ‘The Next’, whilst Ashanti is the new host of Fuse TV’s ‘Fuse News’. Ashanti was spotted partying it up with Nelly and her sister Shia as well as Jermaine Dupri. I love the inexpensive Bandit Brand Metal crop tank she wore with black leather skinnies and leather point-toe pumps.
For the fellas, if you’re looking for something fly, funky and close to home, I’ve got just the thing: Wale Adeyemi’s B-Side wear. Wale is the first street wear fashion designer to be awarded an MBE, and having previously styled David Beckham, Usher, Tinie Tempah and Labrinth, B-Side already has plenty of fans.
The B-side have introduced a suitably fitting ongoing t-shirt campaign promoting slogans reading ‘Big Up London and Britain.’ Also this month, B-side released the second addition to its jacket collection – a Camo Custom Varsity, following the infamous Cheetah varsity that kicked off the series. The varsity treasure features unwashed camo with satin sleeves and a cosy black cotton lining; a great catch for £195.
Speaking of varsity gear, Kim Kardashian stepped out in style to the Louise Goldin and Marchesa shows during New York Fashion Week. Kim wore a pencil skirt, Céline sandals and a Simone Varsity Bomber Jacket, joined by her beau Kanye who rocked head to toe denim and Balenciaga sneakers.
