Lady Leshurr Talks Being Compared To Busta Rhymes And Her Love For Lil Wayne
Birmingham’s Lady Leshurr was recently interviewed by The Wrap Up's very own Editor, Joseph 'JP' Patterson, for Jay-Z’s website, Roc4Life.com. In the in-depth discussion, the female MC spoke about everything from being compared to Busta Rhymes, to her love for Lil Wayne and a whole lot more...
Having fallen in love with music at around the age of 6 years old, Leshurr revealed that Eminem helped mould her into the artist that she is today: "When I first found out about Eminem, I was like, 'No way, man. You can be who you want to be with the music.'
She also admitted that she loves Lil Wayne – who she deems immensely different to any other artist out there right now: "People won’t understand how much love I’ve got for Lil Wayne as a person. He’s just amazing. He’s just so different from anyone else I’ve seen."
Discussing the evolution of her sound from drum and bass to grime and eventually hip-hop, Lady Leshurr reassured everyone that she hasn't left grime completely: "I feel a bit old to do grime. No one should take offence to it or anything. It’s just personally how I feel. There will be grime tracks on my album. I’m not leaving it behind or anything."
Speaking on being compared to the likes of Busta Rhymes and Nicki Minaj, Leshurr said that although she is flattered, she doesn’t want anyone to think that she’s trying to be like them: "I grew up listening to people like Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott and they’ve all added to what I’ve made of myself today. I heard that Busta said a couple of good things about me in a magazine. It’s all a bit mad."
When asked what she hopes to achieve in the coming year, Leshurr mentioned that she plans on releasing her debut album, as well as having her own headline tour. It seems like the princess of double-time flows has her head firmly screwed on it.
