Live Review: I Luv Live – London (June 21, 2012)
Last week saw the infamous music event I Luv Live celebrate their eighth birthday! Over the years, the London based event has seen the best in up-and-coming artists from all over the country travel to the show to perform. Previous guests shot to fame, from artists such as Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah and Jessie J…
Heading to the Old Street venue XOYO, the crowd was already heaving with anticipation as Ras Kwame took to the stage to pay homage to the ‘home of urban music’ before the live music began. As it was the shows anniversary, the acts came through strong, with a line-up turned after-party that went on until the early hours.
Josh Kumra shined on the night, performing his version of Wretch 32’s ‘Don’t Go’ alongside his new track ‘Helicopters and Planes.’ Soulstress Cleo Sol tore up the stage with her new single which is being heavily rotated on BBC 1xtra, ‘Never The Right Time (Who Do You Love)’ mesmerising the audience with her pretty vocals.
Ghetts and Sway represented for UK rap, with Sway performing his latest tracks including ‘Level Up’ before paying homage to several classic hip-hop songs in a quick freestyle. Ghetts got the crowd jumping with ‘Don’t Phone Me’ and ‘I’m A Rebel’. Later in the show, we saw Scorcher and Ghetts on stage together, which prompted gun fingers galore throughout the venue. Scorcher later slowed it down with his track ‘It’s All Love’.
The after party was just as hectic; with UK rap champ Mic Righteous gracing the stage, alongside Lioness, Shystie, A. Dot, Stylo G and others.
The event was rich in diverse sounds, raw energy, pure excitement and one hundred percent talent, demonstrating why the show has remained strong and consistent for almost a decade. The next I Luv Live is due to take place on August 20 and although acts are yet to be confirmed, you can be sure that you will not want to miss it.
