Lovebox Festival: Highlights
This weekend saw Lovebox festival take place in Hackney’s Victoria Park. On Friday, people from Wiley to Annie Mac and SBTRKT took to the stage, whilst Azealia Banks put on an energetic show as headliner, wearing a bottom-flashing jumpsuit and one unorthodox contact lens…
Saturday saw Mark Ronson get the party started on the Red Bull stage, playing hip-hop before having a showdown with DJ Drama and Darq E Freaker, which saw a great mix of grime, hip-hop and jazz being blasted. Hospitality’s stage was also full of life, remaining packed throughout the evening with drum ‘n’ bass lovers.
AlunaGeorge rocked the main stage on Saturday, performing ‘Body Music’ and even their own impressive version of Montell Jordan’s ‘This Is How We Do It’. Plan B headlined, bringing great visuals and a phenomenal sound, leaving his voice ringing throughout east London.
Sunday brought a big disappointment, as Lil Kim was set to perform, yet reportedly failed to arrive to the venue in time. An official statement read: "Lil Kim did not turn up to her set on time. The festival had no other option but to maintain the scheduled running order to ensure the other main stage acts were not disrupted."
Despite the let-down, it didn’t affect the momentum of the festival, given the strength of amazing UK artists present who were doing their thing. Kelis also performed on Sunday, wearing a very bold blue ensemble.
We bumped into Kano whilst on site at the festival and had a quick chat with the Top Boy star (who also revealed series two would be released next month) about what the festival means to him.
“I love Lovebox! I grew up in east London, so this would have been something I would have loved to have come to growing up as a kid – so that’s why I still come here now,” Kano said as dazed fans spotted and surrounded him.
