Mary J Blige’S Charity Hits Back Over Lawsuit
As we previously reported, Mary J Blige’s charity for the Advancement of Women Now were sued last month after failing to pay back a loan for $250,000. The charity borrowed the money from the TD Bank and was due to pay it back by December 2011. However, by the end of the year, only $368 had been paid, with no word as to when the Steve Stoute Foundation were willing to pay the remainder, as well as it being revealed that the company did not have a solid address...
Mary’s spokesperson previously spoke out, saying that the charity was: "presently transitioning its management and headquarters".
They continued: "We remain committed to our mandate of helping women gain the confidence and skills necessary to reach their full individual potential."
TMZ have now reported that the company have hit back, saying that there were in debt to begin with, therefore they should have never been granted the loan; this statement was said to be in their defence. They continued to say that the bank should never have given a struggling company money and the woman who signed for the loan was not authorised. On this basis, they believe the case should be thrown out of court.
The case is currently still ongoing.
