Maz's Weekend Word: Beyoncé Births Baby, Rick Ross Is 'rich Forever', Dmx Gets Strangled At Gig
Social networks and blogs went nuts this weekend as we discovered Beyoncé had checked herself into a New York Hospital under the name, Ingrid Jackson. News soon broke that she has a C-section on Saturday; the result was a healthy baby girl. Twitter was soon rammed with well wishes for the Carter family. Diddy, Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow and other celebs also took to the site to say some kind words about the new-born...
I knew Beyoncé and Jay-Z would pick a special name for their first born, but Blue Ivy? Whilst I think the name sounds like a cartoon character, many online commenters believe it stands for something much more sinister. Acronyms for the baby have already been thought up, such as: BLUE = Blessed Life Under Enlightenment IVY = Illuminati's Very Youngest. Others took it further, saying Eulb Yvi (her name backwards) is Lucifer's daughter's name in Latin. When did Lucifer have a kid? Please.
Another concept, that I personally feel more comfortable with, is that IV is the roman numerals for 4, therefore her name is a tribute to Jay’s 'Blueprint' albums. However, I don’t think Jay-Z would put his albums and his daughter in the same box, would he? Either way, the child is less than a week old, so I think the public should ease off with the devil spawn talk.
On to some other exciting news, word of Rick Ross dropping a new mixtape has been circulating since December, so hip-hop fans were riled up and ready to review when the 'Rich Forever' free download was finally released on Friday evening. The mixtape contains verses from A-class artists, such as Nas, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland, Drake, John Legend and Diddy.
Naturally, members of Ross' Maybach Music Crew are also representing, with Wale and French Montana getting some airtime on the busy tracklist. With 18 tracks, 14 features, 1 skit (called ‘London Skit’, to my amusement and glee) and a video for 'Stay Schemin' already online, Rick Ross has certainly exceeded expectations with this one.
Fans can also rest assured that the larger-than-life rap star is still working on his fifth studio album, 'God Forgives, I Don’t', after he tweeted over the weekend: "In studio w/ Timbaland. Get’n priceless music x advice." He also got a phone call from a certain hip-hop legend: "Just spoke to my biggest musical influence for the 1st time," tweeted Ross. "Dr. Dre just changed my life with a phone call."
Meanwhile, DMX’s weekend was not so triumphant. According to TMZ, the rapper was performing in Long Beach at a Spanish restaurant (hard times?) and as he was about to start his second song, someone in the crowd leapt on stage and began to strangle the 'Slippin' MC. Luckily DMX had a security team on standby, who soon rushed to tackle the lunatic before dragging him off-stage. You have to hand it to him, DMX isn’t a diva or a shook one. He simply asked his DJ to restart the music, telling the crowd: "We don't stop the music for s**t!"
