Maz’S Weekend Word: Whitney Houston’S Funeral, Chris Brown Hits Back At Singer’S Diss, Dmx’S Baby Drama
Whitney Houston’s funeral took place this Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church. Her coffin was carried in a gold hearse, draped in black velvet. Mourners were outside of the church hours before the service, which was studded with stars and her family. Famous friends included Stevie Wonder, Clive Davis, Kevin Costner, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Kim Burrell, who paid their respects by reading eulogies and performing...
Bobby Brown was seen walking out of the service 20 minutes in, which prompted suggestions that Whitney's family decided that he was unwelcome. Bobby put out a statement about the situation: “My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions."
He continued: "I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honour Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how."
Ray J was also seen leaning on Brandy's shoulder in tears as 'I Will Always Love You' was played. Whitney's Godmother, Aretha Franklin, was due to be present at the funeral but unfortunately had to cancel due to leg spasms. She also released a statement saying: "My heart goes out to my dear friend Cissy, Dionne, Bobbi Kristina and the rest of the family. May God keep them all."
Hours later, Aretha performed at the Radio City Music Hall, where she dedicated a portion of her show to Whitney Houston.
Poor Chris Brown. Following his performance at this year’s Grammy Awards – which delighted some and infuriated others, given his previous history – Chris has been receiving abuse from an artist called Miranda Lambert (who?). At her recent concert, she held up a poster that said 'Take notes Chris Brown', whilst saying: “Beating up on a woman is never okay.”
Chris took to Twitter to say: “Using my name to get publicity? I love it! Perform your heart out! Go buy @miranda_lambert album! So motivational and ‘PERFECT’!”
Good on him for having a sense of humour! The singer also tweeted Rihanna for her 24th birthday saying, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!" Rihanna retweeted the message and responded with a simple “Thanks!”
I don't know what is wrong with these celebrities and them paying their bills on time. Last week, it was revealed that Nas owes over 6 million dollars in back taxes! Lil Kim and Bow Wow also featured in the news with similar situations recently. It was DMX's turn over the weekend, as he had some news time over monies owed. This time, it’s over child support. The rapper reportedly owes over 1 million dollars in child support. However, in a twist, the rapper said that he is happy to pay the money, but he wants a DNA test first. Didn't he think to do that in the beginning?
