M.i.a Explains Album Delay, Announces April Release
M.I.A has revealed that her fourth album ‘Matangi’ is almost ready and will be released in April. The LP is said to take a different tone in comparison to her previous offering; M.I.A also told the Gold Coast Bulletin that the delay of the album is due to talks with her record label, who want her to ‘darken it up’ abit…
Whilst in Australia, the London-bred artist said: “It’s due in April, which is the Tamil new year — April 15 — and I’m still working on it.”
The ‘Bad Girls’ rapper went on to talk about her label Interscope Records, explaining why the album, which was meant to be released in 2012, is still yet to be heard: “At the moment, I’ve been told it’s too positive. So we’re having a bit of an issue at the label.
“They’re like, ‘You need to like darken it up a bit.’ I don’t know what it is but as soon as I work that out.’
“We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff,” M.I.A said of her label’s reaction to the follow up of her 2010 album ‘Maya’.
