Missy Elliott Recruits Pharrell Williams on Comeback Single, 'WTF (Where They From)'
Missy Elliot is back with a vengeance to show the Hip Hop world she’s here to reclaim her throne. Nostalgic fans are keeling over with sheer excitement. The wait has been too long and after a three year hiatus, she has returned with the firecracker single 'WTF (Where They From)' featuring artist and producer Pharrell Williams.
The news of her prolific single has received a rapturous reception, taking fans back to future with the musical masterpiece. The visuals for WTF are reminiscent of her 90s and 00s videos, over-the-top, eccentric, and full of flavour. Clad in Andy Warhol inspired make-up, futuristic outfits and her trade mark bold lips, Missy was right when she said “Make a new track, make ‘em fall on their crack.” Fans are going wild for her.
Pharrell jumps on a verse “balancing the bars” with his usual wacky pizazz. With Jame’s Brown-esque echos’s shrilling through his delivery, the collaboration marries up magnificently.
Not one to break tradition, just as she did to the ever loved Aaliyah and Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez in her hit single ‘Work it’, the revered rapper pays homage to the late and legendary Biggie with herself and her dancing entourage sporting beanies hats embroidered with his name. Also featured in the video are the incredibly talented dance mavericks Les Twins. You know you’re going to busting out the dance routines in your bedroom, in the club, at the bus stop… what ever tickles your fancy.
It’s been a decade since she released her last album, and after a teaser earlier this year making an appearance in Katy Perry’s Super Bowl Performance, Missy is back to make a colossal mark. A note to all rappers from the legend herself… She “don’t care who none of ya’ll are, You best to go re-write your bars”. You could literally right a whole paper on the intricacies of this video, instead, please take a moment to bask in the glory that is Missy Elliot. Listen to the Queen of rap’s return here.
