Missy Elliott Talks Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj Feud
A lot has happened during Missy Elliott’s seven-year absence from hip-hop. As she makes her return this week, she was questioned about some hot topics, including the on-going beef between fellow female rappers Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj. The rap veteran stayed neutral on the topic, calling for unity amongst her fellow female rappers. Missy said to MTV’s RapFix Live: “I felt like that situation divided us...”
Even though Missy has never met Nicki, she maintained that she respected her: “She’s out there hustling, can’t be mad at that.”
Kim and Missy go way back and have even joined forces for a collaboration which will appear on her upcoming album. “Lil’ Kim is my sister. I’ve known her for years and I never turn my back on her,” said Missy.
“There’s enough room for everybody. I wanna see everybody get it. You watch the guys do it all the time. They go out on the road with each other, probably don’t like each other. Go on and get that money.”
She hopes the two can put their past behind, move forward past their issues and at least respect one another. “You don’t have to like somebody—just respect. Once we get that, everybody I think will be great. I wish I could wave some kind of wand and make it happen, but I also am not in that situation to make it happen, to say do this and do that. I haven’t been in that situation to know what that is.”
The veteran concluded: “Anybody that know me, know that I show love. We just gotta respect each other.”
