Not sure how I blagged this one, but the good folk at The Wrap Up HQ have given me my own column to yap about my favourite R&B bangers, so if you’re a fan of fresh undiscovered (and established) fantastic music from some of the greatest singers out there, put this in your bookmarks and keep it locked…
M.O – ‘FOR A MINUTE’
I’ve always liked these girls since hearing an SB.TV String Session they did covering Lauryn Hill (L BOOGIE!). After supporting acts like Disclosure, Rudimental and Ciara (as you casually do out here), they’ve now dropped ‘For A Minute’ (written by Jess Glynne and produced by Bless Beats), which will be released on April 13. More of a feel good pop track, it’s pretty swanky on the ears! Check it out.
ROB MILTON – 'ELECTRIC FEEL’
Don’t you just love it when a sound takes you back to a time when music was simply beautiful? Obvz you do – so meet Rob Milton; with a dose of positive vibes, his new project 'Electric Feel' is an EP that does just that. Filled with soul, he calls for us all to "get back to what's real.” Amen, brother. Stand out tracks ‘Real Thing’ and ‘Jump N Move’ have rinsed my replay button.
CHRIS BROWN & TYGA – ‘DO IT’
Despite the ‘X’ album being pushed back until May Breezy still gets my backing, especially when he puts out bangers like this! ‘Do It’ sees him team up again with his boy Tyga for a Ginuwine hook sampled club record… “I buy my b*****s Prada!” I can’t say I can relate, but hey, it makes me want to pop imaginary bottles! The two are planning to release ‘Fan Of The Fan 2’ sometime soon - if it’s anything like the first part, I’m backing this one. Peep it via AudioMack.
COKO – ‘AT YOUR FEET’
If like myself you’re holding on to old school SWV records crying and praying that they can sort their damn record label drama out to give us some new music, I have great news for you... Coko has new solo music! Known for her incredible vocals, she doesn’t disappoint with the powerful ‘At Your Feet’ - emotional, smooth and moving, it’s something to listen to during a chilled Sunday session. Have a listen.
ALX – ‘BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL’
He’s 22. He’s Scottish. He’s a producer. He’s a singer/songwriter. He’s amazing. Introducing ALX. I first heard Zane Lowe screaming about him on ‘Next Hype’ and then fell in love with his drop ‘Beautiful Criminal’. His raspy vocals work well over a compelling, lifting guitar instrumental and I’m really looking forward to hearing more from this guy. What do you think?
THROWBACK R&BANGER: AALIYAH – ‘ONE IN A MILLION’ (REMIX)'
Now, as it’s the first column, you know it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t include my all-time best… The Queen, Aaliyah. I always have these burst of ‘Babygirl’ days where I’ll put her music on and wonder what her life would have been like right now, her sound, the features she would have done… So in light of this, my first Throwback R&Banger is the remix to ‘One In A Million’ with Ginuwine, Missy Elliott and Timbaland (Lord knows how much I would have loved to be in this vid!) RIP.
