Tatiana's Culture Shock: Two Days With Trae Tha Truth
There's nothing like hearing a finished project that you’re actually interested in before the masses, and also getting a glimpse of one's first performance in the great city of New York. No stranger to an artist’s first show in a defining area, The Wrap Up’s alumni, Trae Tha Truth, gave New York a great two days...
He held his first performance in New York at the legendary SOBs, hosted by LowKey. Not only was it a packed house, but throughout the night, it included performances from French Montana, Dee-1, Maino, Fred The GodSon, Jadakiss and Styles P. Walking through, you may have bumped into Keith Perrin, co-founder of Fubu. It was evident; this was going to be something that would talked about for a long time to come. But remember, it was only day one.
Prior to July 12, Trae’s album, 'Street King', was supposed to come out on June 28. But we were in for a treat, as he held a listening session at the Def Jam offices. Bringing out various people, actress Tasha Smith, star of various Tyler Perry films, made her way to ask questions about the album, but it was really all about the album. Surprisingly, 16 out of the 18 tracks had features.
Of course I had to ask what made this an album versus a mixtape. Trae told me: "These are all people who wanted to work with me, so it was mutual. Plus, I wanted to show that no matter who I work with, I can still have my own style and adapt to everything to make great songs."
The album features Wiz Khalifa, for his first single, 'Gettin' Paid', legendary and fellow Houston comrade Scarface, Wyclef Jean, Jadakiss, Yo Gotti and many others. Overall, he has a good mixture on the album and, you never know, you might even hear a single on a feature film.
