The Uk Rap Up With Tobz
The month got off to a disappointing start with news of the postponement of the MMG concert in London. The support acts were the UK’s very own Adz & Shallow, but it seems the Brixton pair will have to wait a little longer for their moment to shine in front of the packed crowd at Wembley Arena…
Regarding CD releases, or rather the surprising lack of consistent releases over the year, good news on the horizon comes in form of very promising announcements. Giggs is fresh from incarceration, now a free and more importantly, innocent man. The SN1 rapper intends to make up for lost time as he currently preps his third album ‘When Will It Stop’.
Most of the details are being kept under wraps but new material is supposedly only a matter of days away. There is more in the pipeline from the SN1 camp with the ‘Best of Giggs 4’ compilation and ‘Cut Above The Rest Pt.2’ both said to be coming later this year.
Also set to drop before the end of the year is a collaborative mixtape between Timbar and Page. Bigz chipped in with some more good news, announcing the follow up to 2011’s ‘Quantum Leap’, which is said to be called the ‘Bigz Bang Theory’ and will reportedly drop in November.
Of the releases in the month of September, the overall pick of the bunch is undoubtedly ‘Come On Den’ from Fekky. Still a relative newcomer, many waited with interest to see if the self-proclaimed ‘Hot Boy’ could prove he had the necessary consistency to justify his growing reputation.
Blade Brown, Krept & Konan, JME and Fem Fel were just a few of the names attached to the impressive 21-track CD, with Fekky in his usual confident and boastful zone throughout.
Finally, at long last we get the return of the ‘Late Nite Grind Sessions’ radio show. Although dormant for the past few years, long standing fans of the UK rap scene no doubt will understand the significance of the show and the big names it helped promote and propel.
A key radio platform is the staple of any scene and of all UK rap DJs and there is no doubt Big Ryde has the reputation, contacts and experience to once again bring quality music to the masses once again. Bring on October.
