Timbaland Announces Two New Missy Elliott Singles
Not long after officially clearing up the rumours surrounding their involvement in the upcoming posthumous Aaliyah album, it appears long-time friends and collaborators Timbaland and Missy Elliott feel now is the time the world heard some new singles from Missy. Timbo made the announcement via his Twitter feed, saying…
“oh snapp yall my sista @MissyElliott is droppin her singles #9thinning and #triplethreat labor day weekend. watch it world we backk!!!”
It appears a much-anticipated comeback for the ‘Work It’ rapper is imminent. According to the tweet the new tracks are named as ‘9th Inning’ and ‘Triple Threat’ which will be taken from Missy’s seventh studio LP, tentatively titled ‘Block Party’.
It has reportedly been in the works since 2008, but if all does go to plan the new album will bridge a gap of approximately six years; the approximate amount of time since she dropped her last body of work, ‘The Cookbook’.
So what could we expect from this new LP? Missy gave us some indication with a tweet she sent in reply to Timbo: “@Timbaland lol! Betta let em know don't expect the ass shake music we always do. Time 2 go more futuristic :)”
According to the initial reveal, the new singles are set to be released on Labor Day Weekend, which in the US falls this year around September 3. The latest developments fall on the back-drop of the eleventh anniversary of the tragic death of singer, Aaliyah, who was a dear friend to both Timbaland and Missy.
The latter honoured the late R&B star, tweeting: “AALIYAH u will always be a 1 in A MILLION to your Fans & TheSupafriends Me,Timbo,Magoo,Ginuwine,Playa,Tweet,Nicole. WeLoveU”
