Todd Terry Heads To London This Saturday For Exclusive House Event
Todd Terry plans to make a return to London with a show at Proud2, The O2, this Saturday. The legendary house DJ and music producer – who began DJing at parties in New York in the early 1980s – went on to mixing and sampling the sounds of classic disco, the Chicago sound and elements of hip-hop, which made his individual talent stand out from the crowd...
He was considered a milestone in the development of progressive and modern deep house, globally, and has produced some of the most respected remixes of the house era, such as 'Keep On Jumping' and 'Something Goin' On'.
After numerous top ten UK hits and a Grammy nomination, you’d think Todd Terry would happily retire from the DJ scene at 44 years old, but his love for house music has kept him going and he’s here to keep old school house alive and show the “new age” kids what house music is really all about!
Speaking about his apparent short break from the music scene, Todd explained to DJ Mag that he never really left: "I really wasn’t nowhere, just doing my DJ thing and putting out records. I was just going in and out really. There’s a new age of kids so I just try to follow through."
His show in London this month will be his second this year and, despite house music not dominating the charts this year or even over the last few years, it seems Todd wants to bring back house and connect with the crowds: "I’m gonna go with some old school and some new stuff that I’ve got, which I’m gonna work on the dancefloor. I’m just feeding into that thing. Not working the DJ, but working the crowd."
However, Todd has no doubt about British clubbers and receiving a positive response in his set; he suggests we’re one of the most advanced clubbers: "I think you guys are a little more ahead of the game, maybe even more than what we are.
"It’s kind of like we have to catch up to you guys, it’s the other way around now. I’m still back in my old school thing in Italy, where they just want to hear songs and peak beats all night. It’s a little different way to look at it, it’s like I’ve got to catch up to you guys now."
The event this Saturday will feature Femi B, So Called Scumbags and Soul Shakers, among others. It will also infuse fashion as its leading up to LFW and, of course, the legendary house music that Todd Terry created. It’s definitely going to be a huge night with house classics and sounds of new age house by the master himself.
