Trae Day: The Uncut Holiday
I remember asking Trae Tha Truth, this time last year, that if I were to come to Houston from the UK, what's the main thing that they would have to know about the city? He replied: "As long as you roll with me, you'll be taken care of." He definitely kept his word...
This year was even better. Giving away book bags, school supplies to all who showed up, it was more of a festival of giving than anything else. Arriving in Houston, I expected nothing less and what I got was much more.
In celebration of Trae Day – July 22, his annual holiday – he brought out various friends, including Lupe Fiasco, Don Cannon, DJ Infamous, 2 Chainz, Trouble, Lola Monroe, Pinky, Rich Boy, and surprises from the legendary Bun B and even Pimp C's mother, Mama C, showed up for the free concert.
It was all about giving back to the community. The event was hosted by Lil’ Duval – who is one hilarious dude – and he made sure that we were all laughing from start to finish. Of course everyone enjoyed it, but it was also a huge party for his guests.
The day began with a quick lunch, a rest, and then we found ourselves on a highly active party bus, which was vibrating with bass taken from ‘Street King’ – Trae Tha Truth's album.
Performances were live at the concert, which was full up with excited fans, amazing food and nothing but love. Next, we were off to one of the best destinations of the day, dinner! Not just any dinner, mind you, it was filled with the best in soul food: steak and gravy, bags of crab legs, crawfish and shrimp. Trae made sure that his guests were well taken care of.
But the evening was far from over. I wondered how it was possible to go out after being so full, but seeing as I had never been to Houston, I was ready for the action of the night. We refreshed and headed back to the party bus. Everyone was dressed to impress.
We headed to a Houston rave, ‘Club Drake’, which was nothing short of epic. Then, we decided to hit up Platinum, a popular strip club in Houston, at 3am. Next thing you know, it was 6am and we just about had the energy to head back to our hotel for some much-needed rest.
From the time that we were picked up from the airport, to the time that we were on our way back to the airport, our itinerary was full. Houston, Texas, we love you. You too, Trae!
