Tyler, The Creator: 'criticism Of ‘Racist’ Advert Is Mind Blowing'
Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator, who has often been criticized for his out-there views and actions has once again come under scrutiny following an advert he directed for Mountain Dew. The advert has been criticized for being racist, and perpetuating black stereotypes. Tyler has said that the criticism “blows his mind”…
The advert depicts a badly beaten woman looking at a police line-up, which includes a goat character who shouts “Ya better not snitch on a playa” and “Keep ya mouth shut”, causing the woman to run out screaming. The advert has been criticized specifically for the fact that the police line-up consisted of all black men alongside the goat.
“It’s not gonna change my art in any way,” Tyler told Billboard of the criticism.
“I just actually can’t believe that somebody sat there and pointed out that it was all black people, instead of being confused that it was a freaking goat talking. That’s mindblowing,” he added.
“I’m standing here in the freaking sun, burning up on a freaking conference call when I could be out skating, all because of some black dude’s opinion that other people who can’t think for themselves followed.”
Mountain Dew immediately pulled the advert after learning that people found it offensive before apologizing.
