UK RAP RUNDOWN
Our weekly run down of the UK's Best Rap tracks...
Last week we saw some solid tracks getting released. Lets talk about the new collaborative track from Dizzee Rascal and Fekky first. We first heard about this at the beginning of the year as pictures on Instagram went up and the talk began. The world got to hear ‘Still Sittin’ Here’ on Saturday as Mistjam premiered it, and then the lyric video went up. Splurgeboys are the production duo behind the track and have managed to do a brilliant job updating this from Dizzee’s classic ‘Sitting Here’ off the classic grime album, ‘Boy In Da Corner’.
Next up is from Teddy, one of grime’s favourite and talented producers. ‘Bass’ is definitely one that will be a favourite for club and radio DJ’s, a real rave track. He enlisted a great line up of artists to spit some heavyweight bars including Maxsta, Scrufizzer, Double S, Lil Nasty and Griminal. Check that out on Teddy’ Soundcloud now
Little Simz released her highly anticipated EP ‘E.D.G.E’ which is an acronym for her motto ‘everyday gets easier’. We’ve already heard some tracks off the 13-track project such as ‘Enter The Void’, ‘Quest Luv’ and ‘Barz Simpzson’. Guests and producers on the EP include Jakwob, Balistiq, High Frequency and Space Age.
Nines dropped his mixtape ‘Loyal To The Soil’ a few weeks back, and last week we saw the first video from the tape ‘Money On My Mind’. Nines is definitely a one to watch rapper that has been on the tip of everyone’s tongues for a little while now. Make sure you check out the mixtape which you can download for free here
Scorcher’s new video really impressed this week with some great effects that for me made it stand out from most I have seen this year. He is joined by Wretch 32, Mercston and Ari for ‘Work Get It’, with the 3 rappers spitting clever bars over a beat produced by Tobi Shy Boy. The track is the first to be heard from Scorcher’s forthcoming 9 track EP ‘1 Of1’.
The Wrap Up also headed to Camden Crawl last weekend where Ghetts tore down the stage at the Monarch, performing tracks off his ‘Rebel With A Cause Album’. He was joined by singer Cameron Bloomfield and MC Rival who performed ‘Said To Me’. Krept & Konan took to Underworld to do hit tracks such as ‘Don’t Waste My Time’, whilst Manga took control of the mic for DJ Target’s set.
On Saturday night I headed to Jazz Café to check out Blizzard who played the keys and wowed people with his wordplay on funny and intelligent tracks such as ‘Megabus’. Big Promo had a nice line up of artists on Saturday such as Genesis Elijah and Eyez at the Beatrice. Little Simz and Lady Lykez were also there and performed with massive energy. Lykez got the crowd bouncing with ‘I Love My Butt’ and recent release ‘Psycho’.
