Urban Style Review
This has to be one of my favourite months of the year for fashion, with Spring Collections literally blossoming, prestigious award ceremonies, televised sports events, and celebrity parties. January is also that time of the year when celebs and artists reveal their newly adapted fashion trends at the beginning of the year to add a lil spark to their image, try something risqué in order to remain current. Last year Nicki Minaj opted for a new toned down approach, to her usual flamboyant bold outfits. Let’s see what this year brings. Get ready!
Some of the world’s hottest artists gathered on the red carpet at the most talked about music event of the year, The 56th Grammy Awards. I’m sharing with you the looks which literally stole the night. First off, Ciara showed off her radiant pregnancy glow in an amazing nude and gold embellished gown by designer Emilio Pucci, who basically makes some of the most breath-taking gowns, we've seen yet.
Ms Rita Ora equally did her thing in a Lanvin green metallic dress, with a sophisticated 50-esque pin up hair style, and flawless make up. Taylor Swift effortlessly wowed photographers in an amazing Gucci Première gold lamé short sleeve fitted gown with crystal mesh overlay and crystal gemstones. Perfect figure perfect makeup. An easy 10/10. Disney star and new girlfriend to singer and actor Trevor Jackson, Zendaya Coleman hot the red carpet in a turquoise and black polka dot chiffon gown from Emanuel Ungaro’s Spring 2014 Collection, with black accessories to match.
All hail Queen B, who is the main topic of conversation this week. Everyone is still talking about her ultra-sexy ‘Drunk In Love’ performance on the night of the Grammy’s, alongside husband Jay Z. Beyoncé looked stunning as always opting for a classic white custom-fit Michael Costello gown.
Rev Run’s daughter, Angela Simmons recent Uptown magazine shoot photographed by James Anthony on the Brookyln Breidge has to be my favourite shoot of the year so far. The styling is perfectlyspot on, likewise are the backdrops and scenery choices. Angela looked flawless in some classic shots, wearing Christian Louboutin, Escada, Nicole Miller, Tom Ford, Herve Leger, and Saint Laurent Paris. Highly impressed, this shoot epitomizes class.
Don't let the current cold winter temperatures deter you from Spring fashion, as we head towards Valentine’s month softer tones, pastel colours, matching sets, and figure complimenting threads. Thanks to Nicki Minaj, Spring it on it’s way. The female Barbie has united once again with Kmart to reveal her Spring Collection for 2014. Expect bold colour blocking fitted dresses, cropped tops, short patterned pants, as well as denim and matching tops. Love the collection entirely.
Bad Boy stunner Cassie Ventura, has recently collaborated with an Los Angeles based urban clothing brand - Young & Reckless on a dope collection of black and white graphic tees, hoodies, and varsity jackets all infused with her style and personal touch. The trendy brand have cleverly incorporated Cassie's artwork and designs.
T.I was far from being missing in action during this past weekend’s Pre-Grammy celebrations, when he attended the Roc Nation Party. He was spotted proudly sporting his very own label Akoo Clothing. In an inspiring nutshell, AKOO is an acronym for A KING OF ONESELF, a contemporary streetwear collection designed for men of exceptional style. Ladies love a colour co-ordinated fella, and he gets a high five for the jeans, red sneaker, red long sleeved t-shirt combo. It just works.
Kanye West is undeniably an amazing designer, with a great vision when it comes to fashion, for men and women alike. He is thinking more than outside the box when designing and definitely stands out as a designer/rapper in his own right. His first A.P.C. sold out almost instantly. West's sophomore collection for the ultra-modern French label, was finally revealed this weekend in Paris, with West tapping into his very own personal style to reveal some eye-catching unique pieces..
'I’ve been showing my ideas for 10 years on the front row of the runways.…Hip-hop is an expression of clothing, Some people don’t understand that. I’m really happy with this [collaboration] because I’m starting to be able to express myself.'
Yeezy has introduced season appropriate outerwear, for example the classic fur lined parka jackets, with frontal hoods and shawl type enclosures to keep warm during the winter months. As well as the Kanye trademark masks, which we saw Drake sporting during Halloween 2013, as well as more formal buttoned shirts, sweaters, t-shirts, and various shades of denim items of clothing. He Is A God.
