Will.i.am Shocked By Racial Comment Directed At Him On Tv
Last night Will.iam was on the Graham Norton show, talking about the Olympics, The Voice, his recent charity donation and more. However, a comment by Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes left the rapper stunned for the first chapter of the show…
The Sun reported that the 71-year-old was apparently staring at him before she said: ''I'm just fascinated by you. Unfortunately I don't know many black people. We don't get to meet across the colour line much except in show business and that's what's so nice.''
Taken aback by the recognition of his skin colour, an awkward tension consumed the studio which led comedian Greg Davies to say “it’s exotic” with host Graham adding ''it's lovely, Miriam, you're right.''
The actress also said: ''I don't know much about rappers, you're the first one I've actually talked to. I was in the musical Wicked and I met a lot of black people and I liked them a lot.''
A shocked Will replied simply by saying: ''And I'm a black guy. I'm the first rapper and black guy you've kicked it with.''
Later on in the show, Miriam told a story of her childhood, where she discussed Jewish people. She then asked Will.i.am if he had ever heard of Jews.
An audience member confirmed to The Sun: “Will.i.am was shocked.”
